In order for Akismet to work, each key must have an active plan in our system – even if that’s a free plan.
There were some keys in our system that had managed to be activated but no plan was ever selected. They had been working fine as with a free plan, even though none was ever formally assigned to the account.
This latest update to the plugin caused a full refresh of all sites on our servers. When that happened, these sites were flagged as suspended, when in fact, they simply needed to add a plan – in most cases, just the free plan – to the account.
As always, Akismet will work for personal sites with no payment necessary. If you’d like to give us another try, we’d love to have you! You can log in to your account and select a free plan. The key will become active and you can use it on your site as you always have.
