• A year ago we noticed that even in some cases where the alt and caption text appeared exactly the same, FooBox still sometimes displayed both fields.

Today I decided to dig into this again and found that, occasionally, work done in the WP visual editor results in stray spaces getting added in the text editor, making some alt and caption text functionally different, even if they appear the same. Ok, fine. It’s a slight hassle, but it’s probably a good practice to check the html anyway.

However, I then discovered a very strange problem with apostrophes in particular.

This is our caption: Wisconsin Dairymen’s Association Letterhead, 1899. Image courtesy of Wisconsin Historical Society. (Image ID 87908)

Working in the text editor, I pasted that *exact* same text in for the alt. But when I viewed the image in FooBox, both the alt and the caption displayed.

So I went to view source and found that the browser seemed to see the apostrophe in the caption (but not the alt) as “’”. It seems like this might be why FooBox *thinks* the two pieces of text are different. I’ve tried reytping the apostophes and the problem persist.

The image in question is second from the top.

Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks!
