I have a flexslider on my main pg. Most of the captions are not displaying (though some are). When I check the preview I don’t see captions on the images which don’t display with captions on the main page. All the captions have captions and should display.

Separate problem, when I try to save the slideshow after making changes it starts saving, then displays a message when there are 50 images left to save–and it times out the web page. Eventually it does save the slideshow, but there appears to be either a lag or conflict that prevents the save process from completing in a timely way.

  • Hi,

If you disable jetPack for a moment is there any change? Can you disable other plugins as well? We use the WP caption mechanism when you have the default set, so other plugins can manipulate the output.

For the error while saving. Do you see any error messages in the console? It might take a long time if you change the width/height values, but otherwise shouldn’t take too long (we tested it with 1000+ slides).

@ Kbatdorf: I deactivated Jetpack cleared my browser and site caches and nothing changed. Some images displayed captions but most didn’t. I have 35 plugins active so I’d rather not deactivate all of them and reactivate them.

Could the caption display issue have anything to do with the default width and height I’ve set for images?

I had all images set to “media library captions” and all images did have captions in the media library. I just unchecked “media library caption” and configured it to “enter manually.” With all images now set for “enter manually” all captions are now displaying in the slideshow.

Not sure why this got things to work since the slideshow used to display all captions set for media library captions (I believe). Maybe there’s a conflict if you have captions both in the slideshow itself and the media library?

    Hi,

If you check to use the manual captions those aren’t filtered by WordPress so no other plugin can manipulate the output. It’s most likely another plugin that is filtering the captions.

Could the caption display issue have anything to do with the default width and height I’ve set for images?

No these two functions are separate.

Maybe there’s a conflict if you have captions both in the slideshow itself and the media library?

It will choose whichever you set, so having both won’t matter.

If it’s working with the manual caption then probably best to just leave it as is?
