• Below is a letter I sent this forum five weeks ago, and despite having some conversations with a WordPress person about it, the problem is still not fixed:

“Hello, I have already sent two emails in the past two weeks to this forum about this problem with captions – throwing out ten years of newsletters on my website. Whilst I can fix this manually, it would take me months to go through the entire site. Please scroll down in the link above to “Hippy stereotype” to see how it throws captioning out with the pictures. How close are we to a fix for this? Thanks.”

Another problem that I noticed, is that images placed in the middle of a page, created large to spread for the width of the page, are remaining small for some reason. I do not know if it is linked to the captions problem or not.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Captions problem in 4.9.2 still not fixed

    What “captions problem”?

And can you explain what you mean by “it throws captioning out with the pictures”?

Please note that as this is your baby, what is obvious to you may not be obvious to someone glancing at your site for the first time. I visited the link you posted but I couldn’t see any glaring problem.

So if you’d take the time to explain what you’re trying to accomplish or what you’re expecting to see, and what you’re seeing instead, then someone might be able to help you.

And as far as I’m aware, there’s no problem with media captions in WordPress itself that should have been fixed in 4.9.2. Do you have any trac ticket to share?

If you scrolled down to the picture I described (hippy) it shows how the text that was originally confined to the width of the picture, has expanded so that there is a big gap either side of it. This has occcurred through my whole website since 4.9.1 update. I do not have a trac ticket, where can I obtain one?
    Thanks.

I do not have a trac ticket, where can I obtain one?

Trac is for reporting bugs in WordPress itself and any bundled themes and plugins. This is not for personal support, and the trac ticket is not a personal ticket number.

I followed your previous forum post with Andrew. In that thread, you said this is “exactly” the same issue in this trac ticket: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/42604

And if you followed that ticket, you’ll find:

    1. The problem was about alignment of caption, not the width of the caption container that you’re now talking about (though they may be related)
    2. It was deemed to be a problem with the bundled “Twenty Ten” theme, not a bug in WordPress itself
    3. The fix was… “Bumping to 4.9.3 due to 4.9.2s release”

So if indeed it’s the “exactly” your problem as you said in that thread, you can wait until 4.9.3 is released.

In any case, presentation issues are easily solved with CSS. In fact, the solution that Andrew suggested in that post actually works — I tried it. You said you’d give it to your “web guy” but apparently you didn’t.

So if this is a huge issue for you, remove those two lines that Andrew suggested from your active theme’s stylesheet… or wait until 4.9.3

I so appreciate your attention on this, my web guy has been awol lately and I have not been able to get him to do anything. And I do not have a clue about the “back end” of WP, I just write the newsletters. I will try again with him and if unsuccessful, how long might I wait until 4.9.3?

My theme is 2015 and just updated it so do not know if that comes under 2010 theme?

Finally got my web guy to try your suggestion and it worked!
    Much appreciation for your time.

    @manvantara777,

Thanks for the feedback, and I’m glad it worked for you.

Can you spare 5 seconds to mark this issue as RESOLVED?

George, I cannot find where to mark “resolved”??
