I have set my PayPal settings to “authorize” the payment for orders rather than “capture.” This is because I sometimes need to add on a shipping charge to the order. I know how to edit the order, but how can I then capture the payment after I do so? When I change the order to “processing”, it only captures the initial amount of the order, not the edited amount with the additional shipping cost. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi there,

As far as I’m aware with all payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe etc when capturing charges they would not allow you to capture more money than the specified captured amount a customer agreed to.

For example, if the customer had authorized an amount of $50 you could not then increase that over $50 like up to $55. The most the payment gateway would allow being captured would be $50 the customer agreed upon.

This is not a limitation of WooCommerce and it’s a restriction payment gateways themselves put in place.

    Hi there,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

    Kind regards,
