Car Demon Plug In Installation
-
Hi,
I’ve downloaded and installed the Car Demon plug in. I’ve added cars and was ready to go, but there is something not working properly.
I can’t get the search cars option to bring anything up and your FAQ is vague. Have you got another troubleshooter or similar to read?
Thanks,
Henry

Hi Henry,
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Let’s see if we can get you on the right track.
Let me ask a few quick questions to narrow down the issue.
Are you using the search widget to look up vehicles or are you just trying the view the entire inventory?
If you go in to edit a vehicle and click on view post does the vehicle page load?
Hi Henry, I never heard back from you so I’m going to go ahead and mark this resolved. If you decide you want further assist please make a new thread. Thanks!
Hello theverylastperson,
I have just found your Car Demon plugin and installed it into one of my WP sites, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get vehicles showing on my site.
Can you help me out with this please?
I’m trying to view inventory, not search.
When I add a new vehicle and Edit Vehicle options, I’m not sure whether it’s even saving the info I input, and then I can’t get it to display any vehicles – it keeps giving me a error (something like a 404?)
I would be EXCEEDINGLY grateful if you were able to help me get this plugin working, because I am hoping it will fulfil my needs (where nothing else has so far)…
Thanks very much.
Eran
Hello Eran,
I’d be happy to assist you in resolving your issue.
Log into the admin area of your WordPress and go to settings, then select Permalinks. Let’s try adding;
/%postname%/%post_id%
to “Custom Structure” then select save. Now go back to the “Cars for Sale” area and try to view a vehicle, hopefully that will resolve the 404 issue.
To view the entire inventory without using search you can enter the URL to your WordPress install then add /cars-for-sale to the end of it. That should bring up a list of all of your vehicles.
If these suggestions don’t help then send me a link to your WordPress install and I’ll take a quick look at it.
Let me know how it turns out.
Hello & thanks for your prompt reply.
I did as you suggested and I can now see the post, here:
https://ufsvehiclereviews.com.au/cars-for-sale/test-ford-falcon-xr8-2012
However, I cannot see any of the additional vehicle data which I entered via the Vehicle Options section.
When I add data to the various tabs, there doesn’t seem to be an option to save it, so I’m not even sure whether it is saving it or not, let alone how to get that actual data to show on the WP post?
Having just typed the above, I just tried changing the options to use the theme included with your plugin and it shows the vehicle data properly now.
Is there some way to use the default theme and style the layout myself?
Also, can the plugin be modified to change from US-centric measurements (inches, gallons, etc.) to show Australian measurements (litres, metres, cm, kg, etc)?
Would it be possible to exchange contact details (email/skype?) to chat a little more about your plugin?
I’m really keen to get the most out of it, but I’m struggling to understand how to best use it at this stage.
BTW, if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your name? I feel a bit strange addressing you as theverylastperson ??
Thanks very much in advance for your help & time.
Eran
Hey Eran,
You can call me Jay, I should probably update my profile to reflect that.
When you add the fields on the backed they should turn green to let you know they’ve been updated. On a future release I’ll modify it so it’s a little more obvious the data is being updated.
The vehicle options should be showing up in the tabs under the photos, I checked your page and it looks like there might be an error in an image path. I’ll try to do some debugging on it in the morning and release an update to resolve any issues I find.
I believe we can leverage the language file to replace the US-centric measurements with the Australian equivalent. I’ll try to put together a .pot file to switch that info out, might be a couple days before I get a chance, but it shouldn’t be a big deal.
Send me an email and I’ll discuss some styling options with you.
You can email me directly at theveryfirstperson at gmail.com
Hey Jay,
I am having some issues viewing the entire inventory. I tried your suggestion above.
Log into the admin area of your WordPress and go to settings, then select Permalinks. Let’s try adding;
Its just not working for me.

Hey casca,
You caught me right before I turns in for the night. I’d be more than happy to help resolve your issue.
Can I ask a couple questions real quick? I’m curious who your web host is? It might help me debug the problem.
When you go to view a vehicle are you seeing the following error;
“The system cannot find the file specified.”
I can’t do much debugging this evening but I’ll look into a bit deeper tomorrow as soon as I can.
Have a great evening and I’ll touch base as soon as I can.

Hey casca,
Hadn’t heard back from you yet. We may be looking at a session issue on your server. Can you install the phpinfo plugin; https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/phpinfo/
Then look at the information it brings up and find the section labeled “session” and tell me if “Session Support” is enabled.
Let me know what you find out.

I’m sorry I thought I replied to your last post. I didn’t mean to put you off.
I wanted to get you to try a test for me. If you go into the admin area and click on “Car Demon Settings” there’s an option in there that says “Use included theme files”, can you switch that to “No”, then save it and try to view a vehicle page.
This won’t fix your issue, but it will tell me if it’s having a problem loading the included theme files.
Give that a shot and let me know what happens and again I’m sorry you had to wait so long for a reply.
take care,
-jayHi Jay, No worries,
Ok so I did what you asked this is what I get when I say “YES”
I go to cars for sale and click view the template loads and I get a big picture of photo coming soon, with the pics I added below it. and the right column the search inventory shows up.
Now if I click “NO” just my pics show up on the blog side and nothing on the right.
Sorry about all this.
Hey Casca,
Well that rules out a couple potential issues, unfortunately they would have been the easier one’s to fix.
Can you send me a link to an individual vehicle page and leave the setting I mentioned above set to “Yes”.
It appears that the template for the custom post type archive page isn’t loading. To confirm this you can ftp into the Car Demon PlugIn folder, then go into the theme-files folder and copy “archive-cars_for_sale.php” into the root of your theme’s (twenty eleven) folder. Then try to view the inventory page.
If we’re real lucky a page will load (minus some images).
On a side note, the reason the individual car pages are loading the “coming soon” image is because you need to set your main photo as the featured image. If you need help with that let me know.
take care and let me what happens.

I am having a problem where the cars I’ve loaded (which are just dummy data for now) are not showing up in the inventory and the sort buttons are not showing up. My site can be seen at https://www.coffeefreakdesigns.com/compmotors/cars-for-sale
Help!!!
Hey Coffeefreak,
I’m away from my desk right now so I can’t check the issue with the sort images, but I have a couple ideas on what might be causing the vehicles to not show up.
First can you check to make sure you published the vehicles, I know you probably did but sometimes it’s best to start with the simple items. Next can you check to see if you’ve added any prices to the vehicles? If not try adding a zero dollar amount and see if the vehicle shows up in the list. If that works let me know.
I’ll try to find some time later this evening to look at the issue with the sort images.
talk soon,
-jay
