    Hi all
I had to develop my own product page of all the products available as well as custom-made pages for each individual product because I didn’t like the templates/pages created from the product area and I didn’t have the patience to tweak the templates. Consequently, when I go to my cart page which displays the items selected for purchase the links of the individual products go to the individual product templates pages and not my custom-made individual product pages. Any thoughts on an easy fix?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi @sheldony, thanks for reaching out to us!

Just to clarify it a bit more, I have accessed your site and added a random product to my cart.

    Image link: https://snipboard.io/zNS0AT.jpg

Then, I clicked on the cart link, and this is the page loaded:

    https://www.sscy.org/wp/product/tack-day-copy/?attribute_color=Charcoal+Black

Can you let me know what page should open instead?

If possible, share a link/screenshots so we can better visualize it!

For screenshots, you can use any tool and just share the link with us, if you don’t know any, I’d recommend using this one.

I hope to hear from you soon! All the best,

    Hi
Thanks so much for stepping in the help me out.
So in the example that you have chosen, the custom product page that I made for the TACK DAY bag is https://www.sscy.org/wp/tack-day/ which is where the link for the same bag from the cart page should go to.

Instead, as you saw it goes to the product page automatically generated by woocommerce when I created/added the TACK DAY bag/product to the website initially https://www.sscy.org/wp/product/tack-day-copy/?attribute_color=Charcoal+Black.

Please let me know your thoughts.

And just to clarify https://www.sscy.org/wp/tack-day/ is linked from various parts of the site because as I had mentioned I didn’t like the product pages automatically generated by woocommmerce so I made my own page for that and every product, but as you know woocommerce in an attempt to make it easier for users has its own template/architecture by automatically creating a shop page will all the items and pages for each product as well as a corresponding cart page.

    Hello,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Please note that the product page layout is controlled by your WordPress theme (Twenty Twenty), not WooCommerce.

As it stands, WooCommerce isn’t aware of the custom product pages you created. Ideally, you would create a child theme and customize the templates – this way, everything would work as it should.

You can read more about custom templates here: https://woocommerce.com/document/template-structure/

Still, I can see advantages in your approach. I found another user with a similar request here and the solution would be to create redirects using a plugin like: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/eps-301-redirects/

This way, anywhere there are product links (cart, checkout, emails, etc.), the default URLs (https://www.sscy.org/wp/product/tack-day-copy/?attribute_color=Charcoal+Black) will always redirect to your custom pages (https://www.sscy.org/wp/tack-day/).

This solution might not be viable if you have hundreds or thousands of products, as it requires a bit of manual work. But, seeing that you created custom pages for each product, that’s probably not an issue.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the plugin suggestion. It’s a good quick fix even if it has some disadvantages. Very grateful for your help and suggestions!
