    Hi,

We operate 2 different Woocommerce stores and on one of them we are seeing consumers CONSTANTLY placing orders with the wrong ship-to state. While trying to troubleshoot why these people keep doing this, we are seeing different behavior in both websites and can’t figure out why.

At least one order every other day has a ship-to state that it set to either FL or WA, when in reality the address and zip code are for a completely different state, such as Ohio.

Woocommerce isn’t stopping these people from checking out with a fake state and zip code combination for some reason, and it’s causing dozens of orders per month to be wrong. Additionally, these people don’t see shipping rates during checkout because they are using fake zip code/state combinations.

One thing we noticed is that on one website, when you are on the cart page and you click Calculate Shipping, it defaults to Washington state for some reason, but our other website defaults to an option that doesn’t even exist on the first site: “State/County”. No such menu item exists at all, it simply always shows a random state like Washington, Florida, or Vermont.

Perhaps this odd behavior is causing this issue? Although we were under the impression that the cart calculate never passed this info through to checkout…?

Based on this post it appears we aren’t the only ones with this issue?

    Site with the constant issues:

Site that works properly with no issues:

    Hello @joyryde,

Additionally, these people don’t see shipping rates during checkout because they are using fake zip code/state combinations.

By default, WooCommerce does not validate whether the zip code corresponds to the selected city. However, it does verify if the zip code format is accurate for certain countries. The limitations regarding where and how to ship are left to each merchant’s discretion. For instance, you can create a new shipping zone for FL state and restrict it to specific zip codes only.

You might also find the Google Address Autocomplete for WooCommerce extension helpful. I can see in the extension’s description, they mention the ability to force the autocomplete for certain countries.

I should note that all extensions sold on WooCommerce.com have a 30-day refund policy. If the product doesn’t work the way you need it or you think another product would work better, we are more than happy to provide a full refund.

This is most likely related to the default customer shipping location settings found in WooCommerce > General, however, if that’s not the case please let us know. :?)

    Hi!

Looks like changing the “default customer location” from “Shop Country” to “No Location” fixed the cart page and now it doesn’t default to a completely random state in the cart anymore like it was doing.

    Thanks!
