Cart total not adding shipping method cost to total

Cart total not adding shipping method cost with any shipping method. I’ve gotten the cart to show the right total on a few attempts by hard coding shipping_total to the get_total() method in the cart class. Does not work any more, however. Need push in the right direction. Thank you in advance.
