Cashback does not work for variable products

I have set my cashback to “product category wise” and “percentage”.
I have set each of my product categories with a percentage amount.

It works, BUT only on “simple” products and not on my variable products.
My problem is that 98% of my products are variable products and the cashback is not calculated on those.
I have tested this, by buying different products from different categories in the same cart, and the cashback is ONLY calculated on the simple products.

I tried switching to “product wise”, but then I have to set the cashback for each variation of each product individually which is going to take me forever.

Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to do this? I would really prefer to set it “category wise” but cant get either option to work.

I would really like to continue using this product, but at the moment its not working for me. I will appreciate all the help I can get.
