• The other day I made a child theme for Catch Box because I wanted to make some changes. Now I see the parent theme has been updated by the author.

I’m a little unclear how that impacts my child theme. I understand that stuff within the parent theme trickles down to the child theme. But, what about when the parent is a newer version? Does that still take place, or do I need to recreate a new child theme to use any changes that took place?

    Thanks!

    Robert

  • From what I understand, unless the theme was completely redesigned you should be fine… even then I would think the child theme would still be fine.

The point to a child theme is so when the parent theme is updated you keep your edits.

OK, then it sounds like I’m fine. I was just concerned with what happens when the parent theme adds a whole bunch of changes compared to the original version the child was based upon. What happens then?

I honestly think you will be fine.

Personally I never seen a theme go from one design to a completely new one.

Usually the theme developer will just create a new theme and name it something else so people not lose all their stuff.

Still very vague, do you have a specific example?
