Categories are indexing as news

  • I use XML Sitemap and Google News plugins and my categories are indexing as news, always on the last or penultimate page of the pagination. How to solve this, so that they don’t appear like that anymore?

  • Hi, do these categories appear in your news sitemap? If not (as they should not!) then it seems like it’s a choice made by Google News… This choice may be based on what Section info you provided in your Publisher Center. My advise is to submit RSS feeds there (like https://xxx.com/category/xxx/feed/), not the category pages themselves. Please check if this is the case.

    You can instruct the news bot to NOT index certain pages by adding a meta tag <meta name"robots" content="noindex"> or <meta name"Googlebot-News" content="noindex"> if you wish to exclude it from Google News only. There are several SEO plugins that can help you add the noindex tag to category/archive pages.

    Hope that will help you solve this ??

    In the mean time, I’ll consider adding noindex meta tags as a plugin feature…
