This just happened to our company web log today. I posted a new article and ALL the categories that had been showing up just prior to posting the article are now GONE. The update applied today was to the Atahualpa 3.7.3 theme. Prior to that I had updated CKEditor for WordPress and Quick Cache. As we were no longer using Quick Cache I deactivated and deleted it today. I also switched back to the older Atahualpa 3.5.3 theme and then to the Twenty Eleven theme. I have tried disabling and removing all plugins except for the reCAPTCHA plugin. reCAPTCHA is required on our site so I cannot remove it, but it has not been updated for a while now so I do not expect it is the problem. Still no categories showing up and ALL of our articles are now “Uncategorized”.

The odd thing is the Category page indicates there are 34 items, but shows none of them. Screen capture here: https://www.eracc.com/other/screen-shots/20111211_wp_blank_categories.png

    Help?

I am putting our very few plugins back because when I removed them it did not fix this. The plugins we have are ones we need to use. The plugins appear to not be the problem.

I found this post but the “fix” noted here did not work for us:

I’m having the same problem. I use the ComicPress plugin, and when I checked on my site today, all my categories and tags were missing and nothing was showing up. I tried the fix you linked to without any luck. It has to be a site-wide bug. I’m surprised the forums aren’t blowing up with this right now.

not site wide as my categories and tags work fine

Having the same problem. All my posts were categorized and now all say uncategorized, home page of my site under my categories is now blank. Click on categories and it says no items found but when I click to have the description display first they are all there. If I try to edit each post all my categories show up with the correct category checked if it is displaying most used. But if I click the All categories…nothing. ‘
It seems that it must be a wordpress issue since so many of us are having the exact same problem at the same time. Hope it is fixed soon.

Well crap. Apparently our web host, PowWeb (https://www.powweb.com), screwed things up horribly. While I was trying to fix our site they were messing with the MySQL back-end. Now it is as if our WordPress site never existed. I am getting the dialog to install WordPress 3.2.1 now. If they had posted a notice that they were working on a MySQL problem I would have left things alone while they fixed it. I was thinking the problem was on my side and apparently just made things worse trying to fix it while they worked on MySQL. This sucks. I am seriously considering changing hosts now.

Same here. Took forever to get to site and when I did I can’t even get into my admin to fix any thing. All blogs/posts/video’s are gone, expect for Ads. All I can see is my header and this message “
    Nothing Found

Apologies, but no results were found for the requested archive. Perhaps searching will help find a related post.”

    So where to now???

Okay, our site is back up (https://blog.eracc.com/) and is working at this point. The categories came back when a database specialist at our host took a look at the db, noticed one of the tables was corrupt, and fixed it. After that, the front page would load but I noticed permalinks were broken causing a failure at the server when trying to load content. I re-saved the permalinks settings and all was apparently fixed. I still do not know that caused the table to become corrupt. However, I do know our host, PowWeb, was having some MySQL back-end problems on the 11th. So likely my trying to post an article at the time they were experiencing that problem is the culprit.
