Categories do not show up on home page

I have a new blog with only one post so far. That post is in a category that is in a category group. Neither the category or the category group shows up on the home page, but both show up if I click on the post title to view only that post. Obviously, I need all categories and all category groups to show up on the home page. Any help would be appreciated.
