Categories don’t import. How to backup/import

    I can’t figure where categories are stored. I have a blog on 2.3, and am trying to bring the categories to my new blog (2.31)Posts an everything import fine, but there’s no categories.

    In the old blog I see a wp_categories database ( assume it’s from before upgrade), but importing that does no good. Why is there no categories database in the latest version. How can I get the categories from the database and get them into the new blog.

    I did a search an found lots of posts regarding category problems and very few answers. Why are the category problems being ignored?

    Don’t ever try to import just separate tables – in most of the cases is a sure recipe for failure and frustration…

    Sorry, but I find it frustrating that this is the case–I am trying to set up a mirror for my site and this is one of a handful of things I can’t believe that WP doesn’t let us do. We should be able to import individual tables. In my mirror site, it’s got a different URL and plugins and so on because I don’t need all of the bells and whistles of the main site. So, all I need to be able to do is import just the posts, comments, categories/tags. But it’s recipe for failure? Importing everything is a recipe for a lot of extra work.

    So, Moshu, are you saying it’ll *never* work? Or it’s just a pain to make it work? Also, what ends up being the problem? As in, what is the specific issue with importing individual tables?

    See, I have been able to import the posts and comments tables without issue, but when I imported the three terms-related tables, they wouldn’t import properly. I’d only have a handful of categories that would show up inside the WP admin pages, while it looked like all the posts on the main page were displaying all of the categories just fine.
