Categories don’t “see” articles of their children in hierarchical mode

  • Setup: one category (A, say) has a child (B). Articles are ascribed to B, none to A.

    When children=1 is passed to wp_list_cats in order to ennable hierarchical display, neither category shows in the sidebar, which is pretty annoying.

    Yet when the direct URI for the parent category is invoked (as in https://mysite.com/myblog/?cat=10, when 10 is the ID of A), the article shows.
