Categories gone missing!!

  • Hi all….
    I deleted a Main Category that had most of my other categories as children. This then removed all the child categories also!!

    In the posts area it still shows the correct category but it’s missing from the manage/categories panel.

    When i try to add the category again it tells me there’s one already there!

    Any ideas who to get them back??

    Bah…
    i thought by adding another category “cat. name 2” and giving it the same slug as old ones would do the trick. It looked like it was adding them in the Category list but when i went to posts, and then back to categories, they disappeared!!!

    Really need help here as i have 50 posts that urgently need to get up there….

    Update:
    The categories still exist, Just WP not seeing them. If i use an ugly url like:
    https://www.mydomain.net/wordpress/?cat=5

    that works!
