Categories links return a google 404 error page

  • Hi all, I have recently installed wordpress on hostgator using fantastico. The posts are showing ok but if I click on my category links in the sidebar I get the 404 error. Anyone shed some light on this problem at all please?

  • That’s interesting… It’s definitely not a HostGator problem; I’ve installed at least 10 blogs on their hosting accounts.

    Could you give me your url? And have you changed your permalink structure?

    Here are things to try:

    Make sure that you have posts assigned to these categories.

    Update your permalinks: Go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks and check your settings and then click Save Changes even if you haven’t changed anything.

    Never use only /%postname%/ as your permalink structure (links to things can randomly break).
