Categories not found in Multisite unless user visits Permalink page

    WP 4.1.1 default installs
    define( ‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true );
    define(‘MULTISITE’, true);
    define(‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, false);
    Registration Settings : Both sites and user accounts can be registered.
    Using default Twenty-Fifteen theme
    Using Apache server

    Permalinks settings automatically changes without me having to do anything as shown in the picture

    Now UserA signs up for both account and site.
    When he visits the category “Uncategorized” –> Page not found
    When he creates a post using say, Format: Gallery –> Clicking on ‘Gallery’ : Page not found
    Now if he visits the UserA/wp-admin/options-permalink.php – just visits and does nothing, no saving, nothing – all the errors vanish. “Uncategorized”, link “Gallery” everything works.
    Same for user B , user C …
    No idea if this is normal and expected or not.
    I am searching how to do this automatically without the user having to compulsorily visit the Permalinks page. Mind you, the Permalink is already set to ‘Day and name’ – which is not “Default”, thus Permalink is already otherwise okay.

    All other links including links like link to Monthly Archive works etc

    If any user has time here, can try the above steps to reproduce, and if has any clue/remedy can please share. Thanks.

    That means permalink rules aren’t being set properly.

    What theme are you using?

    Thanks for replying.
    This happens in any theme. I am using default Twenty-Fifteen.
    Please follow the above steps to reproduce or ask me again to repeat/explain the steps.

    You can please help to submit a patch and push it into core (sorry, I am not a coder) before WP 4.2 final is released. It will be of huge benefit to many.

    Ah, it’s subfolder only. No wonder.

    We mark posts that have trac tickets as resolved for sanity. It lets mods and volunteers know we don’t have to jump in and find an issue. You should follow the discussion on trac. You can click the ‘Watch’ button on the trac ticket (it’s near the bottom) to get email alerts. If you need to log in, it’s the same ID/password as you use for the forums.

    Thanks. I was posting in the forum to see if any one has any workaround or a line of code to help. I mentioned define(‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, false); in the beginning post.

    There is no further discussion being done there, so no discussion to follow. I have bookmarked it though. Marking resolved is a serious drawback for us, because even if any ordinary member has some workaround to post, he will not be reading this post. Since the trac ticket is there for a long time without any resolution or activity on such a non-trivial issue it looks like it will remain like that.

    So depending on some angel in the forum ??
    But that road is also getting closed if marked resolved ??
