Categories not showing

  • Hello,

    First of all I’d like to thank all the people of WordPress for their wonderful tool. Really impressive work. I’m a newbie and it was an adventure to get WordPress up and running on my server. I’ll start with one question (more will come up as I’m getting to know this sublime program. I’ve added some main categories in my administration panel but they don’t seem to show up when I view the page. I’ve emptied my caches and always double check in Opera and IE. Nothing so far.
    Would you be so kind to give me some hints of why this could be happening?

  • I’m having the exact same issue. I created various categories and although they are showin in the administration panel they are not “physically” on the server, thus, you get a 404 when trying to access it. I’ve tried owning the directory so that it’s apache-writable with no luck.

    Specs:
    FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE – apache-1.3.33_1 mod_php4-4.3.11,1

    — Mark, I’ve fixed my particular issue (although it sounds very similar to yours I dont want to speculate) by redownloading and reinstalling the entire thing. Hope that helps.

    I just did a complete reinstall. No luck so far. As always it will be something very basic that I’m looking over.

    Categories do not show on your main page if their are no posts attributed to them. If you would like all categories to be visible, you will have to post at least one post to each.

    The matter is presenting misterious behaviour. I just wrote a post selecting my non-visible category and magic occured. It became visible. When I deleted the post the category dissapeared from view again.
