Categories not working after 2.7.1 upgrade

I did a repair of the tables. if four How do I do a *rebuild* of the tables? phpMyAdmin doesn’t have weee rebuild – just repair. thanks. neon

I was reading here a couple hours ago because I had a category problem
and found this post….my problem was that:
1. the post titles in the “recent posts” and the post titles themselves were sent to a HTTP404 which meant the excerpts were not expanding.
2. the category titles in the sidebar were lining up the posts they connected to but not expanding them…

I took Sambol’ suggestion and checked the custom Permalink I had just updated a few hours before and…ta da…
the custom Permalink /%category%/%postname%.php that I inserted yesterday following Craig DeSorcy’s excellent guide was missing the / between the 2 % in the middle, my mistake… my excuse being that the font is very small in that WP line.

Back to Home page and everything’s working fine! That missing little slash kept everything frozen in place… I’m amazed!

Mine appeared to be related to a process space problem on the MySQL server. When I was moved to a different hosting system the problems went away.

I don’t think the problem had anything to do with your server.
It was probably that your new .htaccess file wasn’t writable, and on the new system it might have been by default.

.htaccess must be set properly so that wordpress can use clean urls. When you upgraded you probably dumped/overwrote your old .htaccess file. I had this same problem and fixed it in 2 seconds this way.
