I have 3 categories in my category list that I do not want displayed in the categories widget that I place in a sidebar.

If select the “visibility” button and “hide if: category is “Value””, then nothign changes. If I chose the <eye> Visibility button and hide the category, then the whole list disappears.

How do I get a 3 categories to not show?

  • We have been working with one of our users that reported an issue with the Category feature and they were able to find a typo that is being corrected in the code and is currently being tested. I will let you know as soon as this is available. Sorry for the inconvenience but we are looking to resolve this as quickly as possible.

I believe I have the same problem too.
I have set the visibility of a sidebar widget to only show on a specific product category, however the widget is showing on all pages that is set to use the sidebar.

Very much looking forward to a fix for this as my development hinges around this feature working correctly.

Thanks for your support and good plugin!

Thank you @eleymonster it is currently queued for testing and if everything comes out clear we will release it early next week.

Thanks @jdailey, looking forward to it ??

    @jdailey,
I’ve update the plugin to v.3.0.8.1 however the problem still persists.

I have a Woocommerce store with the following structure:
Shop> Hydraulic Seal Kits > Caterpillar Seal Kits | Komatsu Seal Kits

I have a side bar widget with visibility set to only show when viewing the Caterpillar category/product range – this widget works great.

I also have a side bar widget with visibility set to only show when viewing the Komatsu category/product range, this widget shows on the main Shop page and also the Hydraulic Seal Kits category.

I’ve tried a few things to get this to work to no avail.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    The url is https://www.lchydraulics.co.uk/shop

    Kind regards,

    Grant

@eleymonster, thank you for checking back. 3.0.9 is supposed to be released soon with the fixes to categories. I was able to get a copy from the developer. If you would like, you can give our release candidate a try. Please let us know if you encounter any problems. This has been tested internally, but it is still a before the public release so please backup before installing and testing. Custom Sidebars 3.0.9

    Thank you for your help!

Thanks @jdailey, I’ve replaced the plugin files with v.3.0.9 beta via ftp.

Unfortunately it hasn’t fixed the problem.
I’ve also tried adding in a new text widget and configuring the visibility to no avail.

    Thanks for your efforts though!

    Kind regards,
    Grant

Thank you for the fast reply. Could you please share some screenshots of your settings so I can try and replicate this issue? I am not sure this is stemming from the same category issue. I will also ping our developer to have a look. Thanks again!

    Hi @eleymonster,

Unfortunately I was unable to access your screenshots, can you try uploading them again please?

If I understand this correctly, based on your above explanation you have one parent category, let’s call it MainCat and then you have two subcategories from there, let’s say MainCat > ChildOne and MainCat > ChildTwo.

So you now go to Widgets panel and there in one sidebar you have 2 widgets WidgetOne that should show on ChildOne and WidgetTwo that should show on ChildTwo category pages, right?

In visibility settings for those two widgets you have selected one WidgetOne to show on ChildOne category page and WidgetTwo to show on ChildTwo page, but only WidgetOne is working properly while WidgetTwo is also shown on home page and main shop page.

I’ve tested above explained thing on my installation and was unable to replicate this issue with 3.0.9 installed.
Can you tell me if I’m missing some steps here?

    Cheers,
    Predrag

    @wpmudev-support

    Hi Predrag,

Thanks for your reply, yes you are correct in how you have described the problem.

The strange thing is that I have expanded the shop and now have 4 child categories under MainCat

WidgetOne works fine for ChildOne, WidgetTwo now works fine for ChildTwo, WidgetThree does not work as intended, it shows up on MainCat and ChildThree but not on ChildOne, ChildTwo or ChildFour.
    WidgetFour works fine for ChildFour.

I have tried deleting WidgetThree and adding again to no avail, still the same behaviour. I have also noticed that if I try to make the widget show for only a certain shipping class, this does not work either.

    Hi @eleymonster,

Thanks for the additional info but I’m afraid that I’m still unable to replicate this issue on my installation and it’s possible that there’s some kind of conflict between Custom Sidebars and one of your plugins or your theme.

Can you try disabling all plugins except for Custom Sidebars and Woocommerce and switch to default WP theme to see if it behaves properly in that case?
This will help us with determining the cause of the issue and we can debug it further from there.

    Cheers,
    Predrag
