    Few days ago I upgraded from WP 2.51 to WP 2.8. A day after the upgrade I was changing around the Widgets and I removed the Categories Widget from the sidebar. When the screen refreshed the Widget dissapeared and now it’s gone.

    It’s not listed under Available Widgets or Inactive Widgets.

    Things I’ve tried:

    Deleted and re-uploaded the WP-Includes and WP-Admin folders
    Switched back to Default Theme
    Deactivated all plugins
    Tried both IE and Firefox (and cleared the cache from both)

    help….

    inside a table in your database. Use phpmyadmin, or whatever tool your host provides.

    How?

    Where can I add this

    Edit the option_value to: a:1:{s:12:”_multiwidget”;i:1;}

    I saw this on

    FROM wp_options
    GROUP BY option_value
    ORDER BY option_value
    LIMIT 0 , 30

    where I put this option_value to: a:1:{s:12:”_multiwidget”;i:1;}

    Yea you guys need to know how to edit databases by hand for this fix. If you have no clue just reinstall. Unless someone out there wants to make a script to fix the problem.

    Now my site is gone ??

    But if my value looks like this?
    a:2:{i:527845451;a:4:{s:5:"title";s:0:"";s:5:"count";b:0;s:12:"hierarchical";b:0;s:8:"dropdown";b:0;}s:12:"_multiwidget";i:1;}

    should I replace it ALL with a:1:{s:12:”_multiwidget”;i:1;} ???

    I did that.. and no change..

    Answer from the support ticket at my host:

    Hello,

    I’m writing in regards to ticket #****.

    As you know (and have already stated), it appears as though your WordPress MySQL database is linked up with your WordPress installation and is writeable/readable. As far as the other options that go along with WordPress, we are unable to support them. As such, the path you took to search WP’s forums for help was correct, and we would encourage you to continue doing so.

    I’m lost.

    I changed the whole SQL-value to what you said, but nothing at all happened on my blog…

    Thankfully I’m just setting up my website, so no big deal, but whenever I add links to the sidebar it only shows the category and nothing underneath! ARGH! I’ve already reinstalled WP 2 times now. How can I be successful if I have to redo everything all the time?

    shabbiest — please start another topic with your question.

    inside a table in your database. Use phpmyadmin, or whatever tool your host provides.

    Guys, which table exactly?

    Ok sorry, I got it (wp_options). The categories are back, but didn’t any of you guys have other problems with the categories after upgrading to WP 2.8.4? My hierarchy is gone (main and sub categories are mixed!) and all in alphabetical order… Any solutions to that?

    @admin@caservers.net, thank you very much! it worked!

    @admin@caservers.net,
    Fresh install of 2.8.6 – Default Kubrick Theme

    This also worked for me…kind of…I was able to get my Categories widget back, but when moving it to the sidebar, only two of my 9 categories would display. This display problem was happening before the category widget disappeared too. Something is definitely going on with the category widget!

    I also tried the Widgets Reset plugin before and after your fix with no success.

    When I remove all widgets, the sidebar reverts back to Kubrick defaults and lists the categories correctly.

    What in the world is going on??????

    Hi,

    I also got this pronblem and solved it easy (database trick did not work for me). When you “Edit Post” categories dissapeared because in “screen options” it has been unchecked ?!? I don’t know what unchecked it but once checked again, Categories went back !
