Category Count Link

OK guys, need some help please.
I am new to PHP and the whole blog thing and am trying to set things up to flow with my existing site. The problem I am having is when the blog lists your category posts and the count that follows. Because of the way I have my style sheets set up, a link is set up as a type block. Now when it lists mu categories, WP wants to kick the category post count down to a secon line. Is there any way to contain the count within the href to avoid this? If so what and where do I change this?
