Category descriptions on sidebar.

  • I’m using WordPress 2, and I’m modifying K2 to suit my needs. The problem I’m having is with category pages (the root pages for each category). When you go to the page for a particular category, it displays that category’s summary through ‘category_description()’. The Codex says that will get the description for the current category.

    I would assume that, when I’m on the main page for a category, it would return the description of the current category. The problem is, it doesn’t. It appears to get the description of the last category of the last post on the page. So, if the last post is filed under both ‘Fish’ and ‘Chicken’, and I’m browsing ‘Fish’, it will return the description for ‘Chicken’.

    What can I do to just get the description for the main category page?

  • Maybe you could use the conditional is_home()? Eg if you are on the home page, use category_description(cat_id of main cat), else use what you have now (I assume just category_description()).
