Category filter not working properly

So i have a category filter where it also displays the child categories with a depth level of 2. Now when I try to filter on the child categories, the URL does change with the proper ?filter parameter but the checkbox becomes unchecked after reloading. And products dont actually filter anything and the product count stays the same.

I tried refreshing but that also didnt work. When i try to filter the normal filters(that are 1 level under the current category, “”) the filtering works fine. but when I try to filter the child of a category thats 2 levels deep for example, the filtering doesnt work.

For example, when im on the “speakers” page, it shows the “built-in speakers” category as a filter. but that “built-in speakers” category has a child “built-in speakers wall” and that category filter doesnt work.

I just updated the plugin but still no luck, any help is much appriciated!
