Category images missing (extract mode?)

Hi, this is my first wordpress theme; it’s at hellofriends.org. I’m trying to build a portfolio site based off of the Mcsweeney’s site and old print books, in that center-aligned big serifed text.
My links to my different projects are under “Portfolio” under the main banner and contact info. When you click on the links the posts show up without the images, I guess in extract mode. I need for them to show up with images and text but I’m not sure where in the coding I need to make the change.
