I installed the free version of Connections, and I’m wondering… to display a category list or dropdown with which to filter listings, do I need to purchase one of the premium templates? I can’t seem to find shortcode or an included template that has a category list/filter or even a search function.

    Thanks!

Yes, you would have to purchase one of the premium template such as cMap. Hope that helps.

For faster responses, please post to the Connections Support forums here:

I’m really active there and I can provide better service and support, this forum I visit about once a week. Many thanks!

I have the paid version and I want to sort by category drop-down and also by location. I don’t know what you mean by cMap. Can you help?

I need help with Connection plug in also. I want to create 2 drop downs. 1 entitled “By State” and 1 entitled “By Company. I have downloaded the free plug in and I just can’t get it to work for me. There really should be a video tutorial available for this! So do I need to buy the cMap?? If so, I need instructions. Thanks.

Thanks for you interesting in Connections but I really do not have anything available at the moment that would be a perfect fit for you.

The cMap template, actually all of the currently available templates, only support filtering by category. The core Connections code is perfectly capable of making these sorts of queries but that would take custom coding a template to take advantage of that.

There is another more manual method that will work regardless of the template being used.

Go to the Connections : Settings admin page and enable the linking option for both Organization and Region.

With those options enabled those items in the entry will become links in the front end when viewing your directory. Clicking those links would filter the results by the item clicked. You can take advantage of that feature by building custom menus.

Go to the Appearance : Menus admin page and create a new menu. Make sure you do NOT assign it a theme location.

After creating the new menu. Add Links to it by copy/pasting the links from the entries to it. Save the menu.

Now go to the Appearance : Widgets admin page and drag the Custom Menu widget to your sidebar. Select your custom menu you just created and save.

    Rinse, wash, repeat.

    I hope that helps.
