    Hi,

I’ve got my Event category assigned to a specific page, and the page I am using is assigned a specific Page Template that I want to use for categories (page-category.php).

However when viewing an event category, the page template is ignored and always falls back to page.php.

Is there a way to force the correct template to be used?

Alternatively I have tried to use a taxonomy page (taxonomy-event-categories.php, based on page.php) and although this is correctly picked up when viewing an event category, the loop doesn’t seem to contain any events so I’m not entirely sure what’s happening there – does it need a query?

Grateful for any pointers, particularly on the first problem re page templates

    Thanks
    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Do you have “Display events as” set to Post or Pages under Events > Settings > Pages > Events?

I have the events set to display as posts using single-event.php and that works fine.

It’s just the event categories that don’t seem to be working correctly – when set to a specific page, the category seems to clobber the page template associated with the page.

A bit more about what is going on here:

    * Event Category Page in the settings is set to point at page “Event Category” which is set to use the “Event Category” Page template (event-category.php)

    * Opening that page directly gives a hyperlinked list of all categories using the page-category.php template. This works fine.

    * Clicking on one of the categories opens an event list for that category. This always used page.php regardless of what page template is assigned to either the category page or the event list page. This is the problem area. How can I configure which file / template this event list uses?

    * The content area of this page pulls in the custom file {theme}/plugins/events-manager/templates/category-single.php. This works fine

This sounds like it could be a theme issue. Does it work ok with the default WordPress theme?

I’m having the exact same issue. Has there been any progress on this? I’m using a customized copy of Twenty-Twelve.
    Here’s the categories list: https://similkameenvalleybc.com/events/categories/
Try clicking through to the Sports category and you’ll see what I mean. The featured image gets pulled from the event in that category.
    Thanks.
