Category parents with & symbol cause error

    Hi Jesper,

    The following error is displayed when trying to import this category-format “Clothes & Fashion/Bags and Luggage” (without quotes):

    Error adding term "Clothes & Fashion/Bags and Luggage".

    Seems to happen as soon as their are & symbols in the parent. & symbols in child categories are not causing any issues.

    Had the same problem but there is an easy solution.

    Replace the & sign with the HTML equivalent & and your import will be successful.

    I used Microsoft Word to “find and replace” all the & for & then just pasted that list into Bulk Press. Worked like a charm with thousands of categories.

    Hi Tom,

    Thank you for sharing your solution! I’ll use it next time.

    WP’s own category admin page was a bit more clear about the issue, stating the “&” parent categories were actually already added. So it looks like “&” parents are added, but not their children. I now ended up bulk adding their children in smaller blocks. Using your solution, right from the start, would have been much more efficient.

    I get the same error messages with & symbol.

    Babies & Kids/Baby Food
    Babies & Kids/Baby Formula
    Babies & Kids/Baby Starter Packs
    Babies & Kids/Children Snacks
