CATeGORY Permanent Link Problem

Any ideas ? Did I confuse you guys ?

To the best of my knowledge (and I’m willing to be wrong), WP won’t let you do what you wish to do.

Logged in as admin, if you go to Options -> permalinks, there’s a spot to specify the “category base”. Marked as optional. By default, all category pages start as “/category”. You can fiddle around with that, but I’m pretty sure you have to have something there if you’re going to change it.

yeah. I played it with . I tried to just put “/” in the optional field … but .. it wouldn’t change anything ?

Any WordPress expert can help me here ?

I’ve found a solution. Thanks to GaMerZ (www.lesterchan.net), author of various awesome WP plugins.
Replace:

$this->category_structure = $this->front . ‘category/’;

with
$this->category_structure = $this->front;

Ok, this solution wont’ work.
Wp using page structure like yoursite.com/this-is-a-page/this-is-a-sub-page

so in order to differentiate cat from page, they have a /category/ in front of the post.

So i guess it cant work.

you can accomplish your request #2, however

go to Manage > Categories > Edit > Category Slug

so you can have just
category/story/

Make the best of it. Re-name ‘category’ to something useful and readable, like
mylife/story/

So there is no way to change domain/category/story/ ..to just domain/story ?
