• Hi,
    Site: https://www.os42.com
I have asked this before and never had much luck with an answer, so thought I might try again.
Is it possible to restrict what categories can be used by certain user levels?
I am trying to encourage new user registrations and allow immediate postings, but I would like to restrict the categories in which posts can be made.
I have searched everywhere for an answer but all to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • I’ve not a definitive answer, but I would do this if it were my blog:
    – Place a suitably worded comment about categories to be used in the post screen. I would imagine that writing this into the same place that the wp-grins are inserted into the post screen would be best, though you will need to ‘write’ it inside php tags but there are some in the index.php where you could copy the format.
    – I would also install the post2mail plugin that Unteins just released, as you will then be notified on a new post.
    If there is a hack/plugin, I don’t recall it right now – sorry !

    Thanks Podz, Beel.
I must admit I am surprised this option is not available.
Thanks for your help anyway. I looked into your suggestion for adding some wording to the post area in admin but not sure how to go about it Podz. The wp-grins reference is in the the quicktags.php isn’t it or am I missing something as usual?
If you see anything come up which provides this option could you let me know.
    Thanks again for your help.

    Thanks Beel,
    All works fine.
Changed category to my ‘Members’ area and added to both edit-form files.
Wasn’t sure for a moment if advanced editing was working – as the Members cat wasn’t showing in post admin area…but it goes to members by default.
And the post cannot be edited by the user at level 1 – so it all works a treat!
    Thanks again Beel.
    Just follow the white rabbit…..

any idea if such access rights would be automatically inherited if an author level1 is using a tool like w.bloggar or ecto? (e.g. when they view categories, they still only see same ones) – i’m not that fluent in this, nor do i know if somebody has tried it this way…
    thanks in advance.
