• Is there a way to have the category slug included in a wiki page’s URL?

I’m working on an archive of news alerts for our organization. So I’ve created a Category called “Current Issues” with the slug of “current-issues” and am adding each alert as a separate wiki page.

When viewing the page, the breadcrumbs show simply
    Wiki > Page
    and the URL is
    ….com/wiki/page

What I’d like is for the breadcrumbs to show
Wiki > Current Issues > Page
    and the URL to be
    ….com/wiki/current-issues/page

The biggest related issue is that once I’ve clicked into the page, there’s no way to return to the main category page. At least with the breadcrumbs, the visitor would have a way to get there.

Does this make sense? Thanks again for your plugin and your help.

    Hi @mlholmquist

My understanding is that WordPress shows the category slug in the URL if you click on the category link and go to the category archive. It is possible that some breadcrumbs plugins have options for customizing the trail but I think they default to how you describe for search engine indexing reasons.

There are some plugins like Widget Options, Widget Logic, and others that lets you conditionally show a sidebar widget when the post matches a certain category. Perhaps that would work?

    Best regards,

Excellent, thank you! I also realize that I currently have a live page titled “current-events” which may be conflicting with the category page I’m testing.

I will look into those plugins.

    Thanks much!
    Michelle
