I’ve changed my index page to display an excerpt and for the individual entry AND the category page to display the full text. However, the full content and both previous comments, and comment form box only show up on the single.php and not the category.php. Attempting an easy fix, I copied the code for single.php and pasted it over the old category.php and saved. What I got was a category page that was identical to the single.php page, but without previous comments or a comment box? How’s is that? The code is EXACTLY the same. I’m baffled.
If it’s a little unclear, what I need is for my category and single.php files to look exactly alike INCLUDING the previous comments and comment box?
    Thanks.

  • I might be wrong, but I think you’ll see comments only on single post view.

No, you’re correct (as usual), but what I’m asking is why, given that the two pages on my site are the exact same template, do the comments appear on one and not the other?

I guess this has to do something with the internal working of the WP engine. Any category.php file is considered an “archive” listing of multiple posts, and comments are meant to be displayed only when viewing one single post. Many themes are designed that in archives view (=category, monthly, author etc.) don’t even display the full post, just an excerpt of it.
Maybe technically isn’t feasible, maybe it is by desing – but most blogging tools work in this way.
