• Hi There,

Unfortunately I can’t get the sync all to work. My provider doesn’t seem to allow it. I had to request my ip to be un-blacklisted 3 times. Any idea for me?

I am still considering of buying the Serial Key for WP/LR Sync.
Is there any possibility to add a category to the page created for the Lightroom gallery page? Right now it just takes the default but I like to have it use one dedicated category.

Is it maybe also an idea to use the Lightroom keywords as tags for that page?

    Kind Regards

    Hello ??

Can you explain a bit more? Your hosting service blocks XML/RPC requests if there are too many you mean? You should contact them about that issue. Also, you can rename the xmlrpc.php, check the FAQ about that.

You mean, the category being the collection set/folder? Or tags? Everything is possible at that point. I provide two basics extensions as an example but then everybody is free to create its own extension to do exactly what one wants. This plugin gives you freedom to use your data from Lightroom the way you want it and there are many ways.

Hi Jordy and thanks for your quick responds.

I have to confess, I am a bit lost with XML/RPC requests etc… I started the sync as explained on you webpage and 30 minutes in, I was not able to access my webpage anymore. It stated that my ip was blacklisted. I contacted my web host to take me off the blacklist and they told me it looks like i tried to spam my server. I told them that it might be the plugin sync and shared links to your page. They agreed it was that, put me back on the withe list and I asked them to please give me a day to let your plugin do whatever it does. 2 hours later, the same game. There I gave up to be honest….

I am sorry if I was unclear, what I meant with setting the category.

If I create a post by hand, it creates the post by default in the category “A tale that wasn’t right” which is good. Or if I create a post by e-mail it creates it in the Category “Roads of Madness”. I was able to change that under Settings->Writing->Default Mail Category in the WordPress Dashboard. I am looking for a possibility to set the Default Collection Category.

Your plugin creates a post ‘collection’ from a collection folder in Lightroom.
This gets created with the collection name as Headline (which is great) and in the default WP category all fresh post get created in (in my case “A tale that wasn’t right”)

I would like to set as ‘collection – post’ default the category ‘Magic Mirror’ instead so all the collections show under that category header like this (https://www.purrfectfire.com/purrfect/?cat=172_ ) I changed them here afterwards manual.

I couldn’t find anywhere, where I could change/set the default category.
I hope I could explain sufficiently what I am looking for.

What is your hosting service? Sorry to say that but for them to say that you “tried to spam my server” is quite stupid. What about our phones doing all those requests to Facebook, Instagram or whatever we installed? They should understand why they do something. Whitelisting is not the real solution, this is just a lazy patch…

Your plugin creates a post ‘collection’ from a collection folder in Lightroom.

Oh, you mean you are using one of the extensions? Which one? Since you talk about categories I guess you are talking about the Basic Posts? The Basic Posts just create posts and let do whatever you want with them (but keep the galleries inside in sync). So basically you would like to create a folder (sets) on the Lightroom side as a category, right?

Right now the folders/sets are completely ignored by “Basic Posts” but I could do that. That’s what you need, right?

    What is your hosting service?

Justhost.com is my web host. But I am not too happy with them lately since you have to pay for every little thing extra. I should go and look for a new provider.

Don’t worry about that. ?? It’s just about 270 pictures maybe 150 are in Lightroom…. I’ll live if they don’t get synced.and maybe i get bored some day and link them by hand ??

By the way, are you planning on implementing OAUTH? I got informed, that the way your Lightroom extension logs in, it makes my WordPress more vulnerable to be hacked again.

Oh, you mean you are using one of the extensions? Which one?

Ok.. now I feel a bit stupid. I just switched it all on, since it hasn’t become clear to me what the difference between post and collection is.

Now rereading the FAQ again I understand the difference. I would be more interested in the ‘collections-extension’, I think.

I do have I question here though. If I go into the wordpress-end of the collection-post and add text (NOT edit the TITEL), will that change the function or will the text be over written by the extension when I change the pictures on the Lightroom end?

So basically you would like to create a folder (sets) on the Lightroom side as a category, right?

I am sorry I am so confusing. Really. And thank you for your patience thus far.

If it helps to associate the folder in lightroom with a wordpress category, then that would be great.

Otherwise I would be already happy if you could add either in the
WP/LR plugin in WordPress or in
WP/LR plugin in Lightroom one input field to specify the posts category once created in WordPress.

Sort of like I mentioned before, where wordpress gave the possibility to specify the category in which every by e-mail submitted content is created in.

Oh, but do you know about the Total Sync module in the plugin? Check this out absolutely! There is also a tutorial for it on my website.

By the way, are you planning on implementing OAUTH? I got informed, that the way your Lightroom extension logs in, it makes my WordPress more vulnerable to be hacked again.

If you use https, then it would be more secure. I actually do use https with my websites. Oauth is a bit tricky to implement and actually I would prefer to use an Oauth implementation in the WP core but they don’t have it. I could make my own module but it’s a lot to do.

Something I could do quickly however is to give you a “Auth Token “button somewhere that will give you a token. This token would work for, let’s say, 6 months, then expire. You could use this token instead of your real password on the Lightroom side. For me, I would only have to update the WordPress plugin and not the Lightroom one, plus the development of this feature would be safe and fast. It would actually be the same security as oauth, except it’s more manual (but I guess it’s alright, isn’t it?).

I do have I question here though. If I go into the wordpress-end of the collection-post and add text (NOT edit the TITEL), will that change the function or will the text be over written by the extension when I change the pictures on the Lightroom end?

No, only the gallery is updated by Lightroom. You can play with the text around it as much as you want ?? Note that this behavior can be changed, those extensions are really easy to copy and modify by yourself.

If it helps to associate the folder in lightroom with a wordpress category, then that would be great.

Yes, that would be the easier way. Manage your categories through Lightroom like that, title of categories wouldn’t be modified if changed in LR (so that on WP you are free to give a more friendly name, and on LR a more pragmatic name just for you). And that would work through an option added in WP (like set up the Collections Sets as Categories). Some people like me don’t want to have those created by LR, I actually use my own hierarchy of folders on LR just to make everything neat, but that’s only for my sake. On WordPress, it’s a totally different one. That option would be great I think.

Sorry for my late replay. Had family over and cut computer time short.

The Total Sync module was what tripped my hosting provider in the first place ??

    No, thats perfect

Sounds all great. Thank you for working with me on this. When do you thing you can add the auth token, etc.?

Sorry for the delay, I was working on a bunch of things. I will add the auth token in one week or so, it’s hard for me to do ASAP. But I will do ??
