• Hi, I’ve been having problems with WP Cerber on several sites, but yesterday was really terrible. Several times that day and this morning, I was blocked from accessing my site WHILE I was making edits to my site.

As usual, I contacted my hosting and they did some research and found the problem to be WP Cerber. They would deactivate it and all would work well again.

I whitelisted my IP address, so I have no idea why it continually blocks me when I’m working on my sites.

These are some of the error messages I get:

This page isn’t workingellenjoycecollection.com redirected you too many times.
    Try clearing your cookies.
    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

This site can’t be reached The webpage at https://ellenjoycecollection.com/wp-admin/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access this resource.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache Server at ellenjoycecollection.com Port 443

I took an image of one particular error message and this is what my hosting told me:

That doesn’t look like a server side error. If I type the error into Google it looks like the message is generated by a wordpress plugin:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48768375/wp-cerber-blocks-ip-we-re-sorry-you-are-not-allowed-to-proceed-our-server-s

These are many and frequent problems I’m having with WP Cerber on a few different sites.

Do you know how to fix these issues? Thanks.

    1. Check the Activity log to get a clue; this is your go-to tool in such cases.
    2. Delete all cookies in your browser saved for your website.
    3. Try to log in using an incognito browser window.

And the following tells me that there is something wrong on your website because WP Cerber never blocks logged-in users while they are in the WP Dashboard. You probably use a weird visual page builder.

I was blocked from accessing my site WHILE I was making edits to my site.

    Ok addressing (1) –

I looked at 10 pages in the activity log, ALL activity dated yesterday (4-28-20):

    Attempt to access prohibited URL

    Form submission denied

Even though the IP is blocked over and over again (and IP address is locked out), this person keeps coming back in the same day doing the same things – how is he even doing that when he’s blocked and IP address is locked out?

And days before that, there was another IP address “Probing for vulnerable PHP code” over and over again.

I don’t understand #2. Do you mean “Delete all cookies in your browser EXCEPT MY WEBSITE or what?

I just deleted all cookies last night for the last 7 days.

    3) I am already loggin in on a regular browser. I had to reactivate the plugin to the activity. I was able to login on an incognito browser.

    4) I use Thrive Architect, which is not a “weird” page builder

I’m getting locked out too. “Too many log in attempts” when I’m in WordPress. Now I can’t get in for something like 1200 minutes (20 hours). This is happening to two sites with WP-Cerber.

I don’t want to disable the plug-in which would require me to re-install it again, thereby totally nuking the log files. I have access to the CP Panel and all the files with my host provider. Is there a way I can either disable WP-Cerber and log-in without losing the log files, or can I view the log files without logging into WordPress (and if so, how do I find them?)

Hi! How is it going? Have you sorted out the issues?

@onemist8k Do not post requests to the existing topic. Submit a separate one. You can delete the plugin folder wp-cerber, log into the website, and then reinstall Cerber again; no logs will be affected.

Yes. Instead of deleting the plug-in, I rename the plug-in folder, log in via /WP-ADMIN, then name the Cerber folder back to the original. That way settings and log files were retained.

I still don’t know what is causing this. Near as I can figure, it is when the session times out and something in my session keeps trying to log me back in repeatedly. It doesn’t happen as long as my session doesn’t time out.

@onemist8k Please rename the renamed folder back to ‘wp-cerber’; Cerber expects it resides in its normal folder.

If you have an issue with being locked out from your website by Cerber, check if you have the ‘other forms’ setting activated in the spam settings. If you have, try disabling spam checks for ‘other forms’.

@lanxalot, I tried your solution. Will see if it helps. Thanks.
