If you are only using the Birthdate Selector type from BuddyPress Xprofile Custom Fields Type, you can support it in BP Profile Search 4.8.1 adding this code to your bp-custom.php file:

add_action ('bps_custom_field', 'my_add_birthdate');
function my_add_birthdate ($f)
{
	if ($f->type == 'birthdate')
	{
		$f->format = 'date';
		$f->options = array ();
	}
}
