All emails from CF7 forms are being marked as SPAM by Google.

Emails are sending for other wordpress functions like new user creation, comment moderation, forgotten password etc and do not end up as SPAM.

I have tried an SMTP plugin but Google Apps is playing hard to get with connecting. I and pointing to smtp-relay.gmail.com, have tried all three port numbers (port 25, port 465, or port 587), and all three options for encryption (None, SSL, TLS). But no luck with connecting even though I can login to the account fine when not using this plugin.

I have also tried adding additional Header info as mentioned on the Buzztone webpage but no change.

What I can see is that the email headers between general wordpress functions and CF7 emails are different in one major area:
    Marked as NOT SPAM: X-Get-Message-Sender-Via: munson.liquidweb.com: authenticated_id: castille/from_h
    Marked as SPAM: X-Get-Message-Sender-Via: munson.liquidweb.com: authenticated_id: castille/only user confirmed/virtual account not confirmed

How can I get the CF7 header to show a confirmed status?

  • Please include a link to your Contact Form 7 form plus all your input in the Mail sections of the CF7 interface.

Note: Using SMTP is unlikely to ??help limit emails being seen as SPAM.

    To: [email protected]
    From: [your-name] <[your-email]>
Subject: Weblead for [charges] – [your-name] at [tel-423]
    Additional Headers: Sender: [email protected]
    Reply-To: [your-name] <[your-email]>

[email protected] is not the actual email being used but I dont want to publish clients email here. This is also the same email used in setting up the SMTP settings.

Webhost had to open up SMTP to allow connection. That has been done and test was succesful within the WP-Mail-SMTP but when I try to send form am still getting: “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.”

What else can I do to get these emails to be NOT marked as spam by Google? Why can’t their headers be the same as emails generated by the WordPress system?

    Thanks for your help!

The use of From: [your-name] <[your-email]> can be problematic in some cases even with the use of Sender: [email protected] depending on your hostings email sending policies.

See Best Practice to Set Up Mail??

Also sounds like your ??SMTP settings may not be correct for your particular hosting. You should not be getting “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.” if SMTP is working correctly.

Ok so the From address fixed the problem and mail is coming through fine now. Its unfortunate as we cannot simply hit reply to respond to the visitors question but not the end of the world. It looks like I do not need SMTP to make this work either so I am removing that plugin and moving on.

    Thanks for your help.
