• Hi,

This is very strange. I got CF7 configured and tested out with all my other plugins yesterday. It was fully functioning and I was very happy with it. At the end when all testing was done, I took a snapshot (aka backup) of everything with BackWPup. Just now when I loaded everything as-is from the backup files, CF7 no longer works. It is now giving me the following error every time I tried to submit the form:

There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later.

I inspected that HTML codes and realized that the CSS class showing the above error message was wpcf7-spam-blocked so I believe the problem I am facing is “Submission was referred to as spam“.

It will be great if anyone can give me some hint as to what may be going wrong here. As I mentioned, everything was working perfectly yesterday and I have not changed a single thing to my code and configuration.

The plugins that I was using alongside CF7 are as follows:

      Contact Form 7 Honeypot
      Contact Form DB
      Postman SMTP

The plugins worked together really well yesterday and I have thoroughly tested them out.

    Please help! Thanks!

What other plugins and theme do you use? Where can I see the site?

    Hi Takayuki,

I also use the following plugins:

      Advanced Custom Fields
      Custom Post Type UI
      Relevanssi
      Share Buttons by AddThis

The site is not up and running yet. I currently have everything in my local development environment. It will be great if you can give me some hint as to what may have gone wrong. But like I said, nothing was changed (both codes and configurations) and CF7 suddenly stopped working and gave me the error message I mentioned in my previous post.

    Thanks a lot!

If you have a reCAPTCHA, try removing it.

No I do not have reCAPTCHA. Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

Try deactivating all other plugins and switching to the default theme.

    Hi Takayuki,

Would you mind advising what triggers the “Submission was referred to as spam” error? Perhaps we can narrow down the root cause from there?

    Thanks again!

    Hi Takayuki,

Seems like there are a number of other users who are also encountering the exact same problem I am facing. Again, it will be greatly appreciated if you can enlighten us on what triggers the “Submission was referred to as spam” error message as this answer may be able to help a lot of us who are encountering issue with sending.

    Thank you very much!

It returns the error message when WPCF7_Submission::spam() or wpcf7_spam filter returns true. Try deactivating other plugins and theme, to find out what was interfering.

    Hi Takayuki,

Is there a way to disable the spam detection logic within CF7? I do not need spam detection.

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Takayuki,

Just wanted to quickly follow up with you regarding my previous post. It will be great if we can turn off the spam detection logic within CF7 as it appears to be triggered without a good reason.

    Thanks again!

I’m having the same problem. Have you found a solution?

No. Unfortunately Takayuki has stopped the discussion.

Apparently many of us are encountering the same issue. Very disappointing…

I’m not getting the error message, but just spinning arrows.

Up until yesterday it worked fine. And YES, I deactivated the theme and plugins (even though nothing had changed there).
