Since an update to the PHP and WP last week, I haven’t been able to receive emails after my potential customers press the “send” button to contact us.

I receive the following message when trying to send a message:
“There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later”
The error message is contained within a yellow box.

    Troubleshooting done:
    Downgraded my PHP to 5.6
    Deactivated all nonessential plug-ins

I can sometimes receive a message if it’s sent from a desktop, but 85% of my website visitors contact me through mobile devices.

Please resolve this issue asap since this is resulting in a tremendous loss of income.

Roll back CF7 to version 5.3.2 and try again.

    How to:
    Install https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-rollback/ (WP Rollback)

After installing and activating, go to “Installed plugins” and near each of the plugins you’ll see a “Rollback” option.

Click it and select version 5.3.2.

After it’s done, click “activate plugin” in the final window to activate the installed version.

Just installed WP Rollback and downgraded to Version 5.3.2
That did not resolve the issue
    I also tried Version 5.3.1

Cleared all cache and still sends emails via desktop but not from mobile devices. The behavior changed though… instead of receiving an error it now has the eternal spinning wheel.

Did you activated the Captcha V3?
For me it was the problem & i disabled it for the moment
Also I installed the Flamingo Extension, to detect Spam-Problems

@avniy I rolled CF7 back to 5.3.2 then emptied all caches using the WP Total Cache plug-in. I then deactivated W3 and tried again. I’m getting the spinning circle.

@tommyfrog I installed the “Disable Recaptcha – CF7” plug-in which didn’t result in any changes. I’ve seen a lot of mention of Flamingo. What does it do and is it something I need? I try to keep as few plug-ins installed as needed but will definitely use it if it makes anything better.

flamingo detects all mails which are sended by contactform-7 (also when you get a error message “can’t send” in case of spam mail)
    it’s developed by contactform-7
it will show the potential spamcore of single mail
for me it was a good tool, to understand, why i get a error message & to save every mail

i unregistered the captcha not by plugin, just delet the captcha keys in contactform
after that i can send mails, but also I get so much spam-mails

but first of all: check if your Mailserver is working, f.e. you can send mails by wp_mail() -> plugins are available

I deleted the recaptcha keys, cleared cache, then tried again. it still have the spinning circle on mobile

Update: After deleting the recaptcha keys and clearing cache, I downgraded CF7 to 5.3.2 (I had auto-update turned on therefore it kept updating each night). Now the ‘send’ button is totally unresponsive, not even a spinning circle.
