• I’ve made the 0.91 BETA release available:
    https://www.chait.net/index.php?p=147
It provides easy populating of a database full of your favorite Amazon products, and quick adding to your template for displaying recent and random items.
Supports pretty much any product listed on Amazon (at least first-party items — anything with an ASIN), in every catalog — games, toys, music, dvds, books, electronics, apparel, you name it!
Basic locale support, though I’ve only ever tested US (people wanting to try outside of US should talk to me).
    Any Qs, fire away!

I get the following error after adding an ASIN:

    CRITICAL FAILURE: Amazon cache directory
    [/home/gldnspce/public_html/wp-content/plugins/cg-plugins/cache_amazon/] doesn’t exist!

I can’t locate the amazon_cache. Am I to create that myself? What am I doing wrong?

I just created the cache directory, so all is well. How can I change how links display? I’d rather it didn’t display the date. And can I change it so it reads “What I’m Reading” instead of “Amazon”?

Ummm, BIG issue if the directory wasn’t there… It should have been there, just empty. What zip are you using?

If you don’t care to show any extra data beyond title/manufacturer (i.e., pricing data, anything else that ‘changes’ over time), in cga-config.php uncomment the line:
    //$amazonMinimumData = true;

    That’ll nix the timestamps.

You can change the code to read whatever you’d like for the title of the list — should just be change “Amazon” to whatever you want. ??

I’m using the cg-amazon plugin and it seems to cause a problem with my comments and passwords. Upon entering a comment or password for protected post the comments-post.php/wp-pass.php show with a blank page. When I deactive cg-amazon, all is well again. I’d hate to remove the plugin. Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks.

Again, I’m more than a bit concerned you had no cache folder — but maybe you didn’t upload the cg-plugins folder in one copy? (which would have included the subfolders…)

I’ll try to take a look at protected posts right now — don’t know what could possibly be interacting between the two as CG-Amazon is generally ‘passive’ until called upon. Do you have any other special plugins running? It could be CG-Amazon is actually ‘colliding’ with another plugin, thus causing the issue. But I’ll go test some things out — sounds like it should be immediately obvious.

I just tried a password protected post. It shows up with a password-entry field in place of the content, I entered the password, clicked the button, the post text shows up. This is with pretty much ALL my plugins active…

I tried in FF logged in as admin, and in IE not logged in. Both entering PW and comment worked fine.

What build of WP are you using, and what other plugins do you have active? Have you tried turning off other plugins to see if you can find a conflict with CG-Amazon? Feel free to take this offline at cgcode at chait dot net with more details, we can always post the end solution here. ??

My mistake. I didn’t realize I posted my problem in this thread, not the other. I thought maybe I hadn’t submitted it. ?? The cache issue was probably my doing. I may not have uploaded the cg-plugins folder in one copy (I don’t remember). I’ve decided to use the plug on a separate page instead of the sidebar. All seems to be well again. Thanks again!

If you could prove out whether there’s a custom plugin you have installed that is conflicting with CG-Amazon and causing the problem, it’d be good to know and fix — if it’s something I’m in a position to fix. ??

    Thanks!

There probably is a custom plugin that’s the cause. The same problem occured again. I’ve installed/reinstalled several times (each time the cache directory wasn’t created). I’m sure it’s something I’m doing wrong–if I have to do more than drop a plugin in the plugin folder and activate, most likely something goes wrong. ?? I’m just a little frustrated at this point. Maybe I’ll try it again somewhere down the road.

how are you copying files up? With most FTP programs, you can just point it to the source plugins directory, the destination plugins directory, and either copy one to the other, or select all inside the first and batch copy to the other.

If you’d like help debugging further, I’m more than happy to… cgcode at chait dot net is the best place to reach me direct.
