  • I’m sorry but we do not have the time to watch screencasts here. Please describe the problems you are having in text.

I’m surprised. The video I created is only 1.5 minutes and does a lot better job of describing the problem than words ever can. I’ve used this technique of sending a screen video with other support groups and been thanked for doing it.

I have transferred a blog from one server with a prior host to a shared Linux server at GoDaddy. I have moved about 12 sites and the problem at this one eludes me.

https://www.cane.com is slow loading and …

When I try to add an image to a posting,

    In Post Editor
    1) Select location in text to add image
    2) Click on “Add Media” button
    3) Click on “Upload Files)”
    4) Select an image from my disk
    5) The image returns as a greyed out square but..
    6) If I select it and then go to “Edit Image” then it is available to manipulate by flipping or scaling. But when I save it the program shows that it is saved but the image is not there for editing or display.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Hi Esmi

I missed an email somewhere and did not realize that you had replied. The problem at cane.com did clear and I have no idea or memory as to how that happened.

This morning I started to work on https://www.pemfsite.com, another site that I had migrated from a Windows server to a Linux server at Godaddy.com a while back and it has the same or similar problem. I did all that you recommended above for https://www.pemfsite.com and life is still not OK. I currently have all plugins off and I have the default them running so the site looks ugly.

I did clear out my pemfsite directory, re-install WP 3.5.2 and then copied back wp-config.php and the wp-content directory.

When I try using the image uploader in the Media Library – I get no error messages but the image icon showing is a small “Torn Image” icon. Strangely enough, when I click on “Edit” I don’t see the image unless I click on one of tghe icons that cause it to flip vertically or horizontally. I found that strange and decided to log on with a different browser to make sure my cache was clear and again the image could be edited but not saved. I right clicked on the image and found that the image url is “https://pemfsite.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=imgedit-preview&_ajax_nonce=bcd51ba012&postid=1042&rand=56894”

I also found that the program did not create a “wp-content\uploads\20137” directory so I created one and put one image in it. The Media Library “sees” that image but there is only one image at fixed size and there is no 150×150 image or a medium image etc.

I am having no problem using an image that is already in the Medial Library.

I know you don’t love videos but I make another one if you’d care to watch it:
See https://screencast.com/t/Db3tPF5N (The Video is clearer if you click on “Full Size” at the top before hitting the start arrow.

also found that the program did not create a “wp-content\uploads\20137” directory so I created one and put one image in it.

Remove that folder and it’s image(s). It is imperative that WordPress creates the folder itself and generated the image files inside it. Next try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

I did as you suggest and deleted the folder 2013/07 folder.

I checked permissions the “Godaddy” way and I see the following

    Web User Permissions
Read (Checked) Write (Unchecked) and Execute (Checked)
    Owner Permisions
Read, Write and Exectute (All Checked)
See https://screencast.com/t/Ji6uyyqt7S for image of what Godaddy shows me.

See https://screencast.com/t/ZDZNE7oIclY7 for an image of the main permissions shows me.

These permissions are the same as my other sites.

    Chris

These permissions are the same as my other sites.

That doesn’t matter. They probably are not on the same physical server – even if they are with the same host. You need to try the various permissions I suggested above.

I flipped the permissions on and off the “Godaddy” way and tried the upload at each position with no luck.

If you lioke, send me an email at [ redacted, support is offered via the forum and not email ] with a recommended password and I’ll add you as an FTP and WP_ADMIN

I’m sorry but I only offer one-to-one onsite support for paying clients.

I understand. Do you have any other suggestions? I believe the problem is somewhere in the database. Any idea(s) on how I can check that?

BTW: How does one become a paying client?

    Chris
