Changable Sidebar Text
-
On my blog I currently have a quick “Welcome” section of four lines of text in my sidebar. I really wish there was a way to get this to change depending on what the site visitor was doing.
Here a few examples to help explain my idea…
1 – When they clicked on a photo subject (category) the “Welcome” text would change to the name of the category and I would have specific text relating to this topic. Like if they had clicked on the “London” category it would have four lines relating to my visits and photos from London.
2 – Once the user had visited the homepage and clicked on to a different page within the blog, the welcome link would be removed or change to something different such as “Thanks for browsing” “Have you tried search” etc… with the four lines of text relating to these titles. These could be random or different depending on the type of link.
3 – When a regular visitor (not a logged in user) returned to my website I would love it to say “Welcome Back” and have you thought about subscribing to the site, rather than the text saying “Welcome” as it does at the moment.
My blog can be seen at https://www.edwud.com if you want to get a more visual idea of my mission.
This might need a plugin or some serious PHP scripting but I have little idea of where to start.
Does anyone have any ideas or advice for me? Even one or two of the examples above would really help me get that unique userability to my website that I am looking for. I understand it might need to involve Cookies or AJAX, something I have no experience with, I only have basic knowledge of how to edit PHP and CSS. Please help, thank you.
