  • Hi Cornelius,

I’m sure you tried to just FTP your version of the plugin to the folder of the ‘original version’. What was the result?

    Hi WPG,

hm, no i did not try to FTP. I would not even know how to do this.

Finally I found my old svn account. But I very much dislike svn and would like not to use it.

Isn’t it possible to abandon an old plugin and create a new one?

Thanks a lot and kind regards
    Cornelius

    Hi Cornelius,

Most people using WP, never use SVN, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

    Disable a plugin:

    1. dashboard > plugins > installed plugins
    2. locate the plugin in the list > click ‘deactivate’

Using FTP: Check out [only] step 1 thru 5:
    https://www.ixwebhosting.com/hosting-manual/ftp

    1. Download and install FTP – https://filezilla-project.org/download.php
    2. Use the ftp-login data you received from your webhost to ftp-access your site. [can’t find it? your webhost is more than willing to help]
    3. Locate the plugin folder of the plugin you’d like to change
    4. make a backup of this folder by copying it to your desktop-pc
    5. [are you sure you made a backup?!]copy the ‘new-and-improved’ files / version you created to that folder, overwriting the existing files
    6. browser: fingers crossed… check the result
    7. everything works? GREAT! >>Share your plugin with the world?
    8. It doesn’t quite work yet…?
    9. FTP: Restore the old plugin by placing back the files you backed up
    10. Tinker with your project some more, and try again…

BTW: The number of available plugins is absolutely astronomical. You might want to check out what’s already available, and see if that meets your needs. Other users may steer you in the right direction….
So what are you hoping to achieve?

    Hello and thanks a lot,

but I realize, we had a misunderstanding here.
I was not wondering how to manage a plugin within a wordpress installation but rather the following:

    I developed a plugin – this one:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/linotp/

And I like to change it, change the name or even remove it from the plugin repository. And I can only change the plugin using svn…

I’d rather use git or refer to github https://github.com/cornelinux/wp-linotp-auth

    Kind regards
    Cornelius

    Kind regards
    Cornelius

Please contact plugins [at] wordpress [dot] org if you wish to remove this plugin.
