I’d like to make a post that was previously published inaccessible so that if someone has the direct link to it, it will give a 404 not found error. But I don’t want to delete the post. I might need it back later exactly as it was originally published.

is this possible. I’ve googled and found nothing.

  • How about putting it back into draft mode, and then making a temporary change to the title? Something like from “post-title” to “post-title-hold”. Don’t forget about the slug too, if it differs from the post title. There may be more to it than that, but nothing comes to mind at the moment.

Or just copy the content into a new draft post and delete this one?

Thanks. Perfect. It was driving me crazy that I set the status to pending or draft and the old URL still worked.

    Glad it worked for you!
