I’d like to change what breadcrumb displays on Google SERP. Google currently picks the Category of a post to display next to the homepage URL on the SERP. But I’d like it to display the slug of my post (the slug that I enter in WordPress via Yoast).

How do I make this work? I contacted Yoast already but they told me it’s likely a theme issue – see the attached link.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @medievalreporter

I’m not entirely sure why the Yoast developers have pointed you in our direction, because as far as I know, a theme cannot affect how the breadcrumbs are displayed on Google search. Google takes the site’s sitemap and makes sense of it. This is not controlled by the theme.

Though, if you have Yoast installed, you can try changing the breadcrumbs provider inside the Customiser -> General -> Breadcrumbs area. Though this change will be purely visual.

I fairly certain that you need to modify some Yoast settings to achieve this. But give the changing the breadcrumbs provider a try.

    Thanks
