Change color of text in blog homepage/blog page

The text you write for a blog post is currently light gray. The background is white. The text is somewhat difficult to see.

How can I change that text to a darker color?

I tried the following in custom.css, then cleared my cache, enabled custom.css, and nothing changed:

.entry { color: black; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.6em; }

I can change the color of the text inside the Dashboard just by highlighting the text and choosing black, but the text color doesn’t change on the blog roll/home page. that text stays light-colored.
