    Hello,

Basically I want to know if it is an easy process to change the domain where I have installed my WP multisite (subdomain). I would like to know if is something that would be easily done just changing the URL in the settings or if it involves going and changing database, doing backups, or doing other things.

I am very new to WordPress. I have signed up for a new host account today with bluehost and have registered a new domain, which is my primary domain (mirosoaresstudio.com). Then I have also transferred my old domain registration to bluehost (mirosoares.com), but it will take about 7 days to be done.

I have just installed my WP multisite on my primary domain (mirosoaresstudio.com). It works well. But I want actually to have it installed on the other domain (mirosoares.com). Should I just go on and change the domain later? Or delete this installation and install it in the domain when is has been transferred?

I would really appreciate your help.
    Thank you guys.

In the installation of the WP (via MOJO marketplace) I have to choose between domain with or without www. What should I choose?

    Hi Miro,

We strongly suggest that you take help from a fellow WordPress geek to do your multisite installation. If you don’t have one already, then you can find one by joining a WordPress Meetup near you. Or, you may have to waste a few more hours/days into this. And you have spent a good amount of time on it already, ain’t we right?

Good luck on your WordPress journey! Hope it’s a wonderful one. Adieu.

    Ok. Understood.
Could you only let me know if I should install it on a domain WITH or WITHOUT www?
    Thanks.

    Hi guys,
I have already signed up for a Meet Up and in the end of the month I will be able to attend a meeting.

I have uninstalled WP, deleted database, empty public_html directory to start clean. I have also deleted my wildcard domain (and have created it again after I had reinstalled my WP). So at this point I have just installed the WP and enable it to multisite. I haven’t installed yet any plugin.

I have done a on click WP installation on a domain with out www.
Then I have installed WT multisite as sub-domain.

I would really appreciate if you could just help me with this basic issue that I can’t figured out why is happening:
After creating a new site it doesn’t open in dashboard.

(My wild card (*.domain.com) seems right, in public_html).

Could you only let me know if I should install it on a domain WITH or WITHOUT www?

There’s a lot of discussion on the internet when it comes to https:// vs. https://www. This article will help you understand it better.

    Thank you WPgeek,
I read similar articles and most of them says that this is a personal choice and the important is to be consistent. Myself I was asking not in regarding the personal preference but the one that would eventually work on my installation.

It’s been several days I am stuck and can’t get the WP multisite installation to work. And I mean the simple installation with no addition domain or any complex feature.

I install WP multisite, enable it but then the new site just don’t load, not even its dashboard.

I would be very grateful if some one could have an idea about what can possibly be wrong.
    Best regards.
    Miro

    Hi again Miro,

Then you have two choices left.

    • Have a friend do it for you.
    • Go with a single install for now.

As per forum rules, posting of email ids isn’t allowed, or we would be glad to help you with the installation personally.

    Hi WPgeeks,
OK, that is fine. I understand that this post went already too long.
Also I do appreciate all the help you have providing since the beginning anyway. I thank you for that.

    – I tried to contact some friends but they are not using multisite (I was surprised).

    – Well, on my side I am still decided to go with the WP multisite. The very first time I tried I was able to instal it easily. I didn’t have any problem. Then when I went to use different domains it got confused. Now I am trying just to keep it simple with the domains, but still use a multisite. I am surprised with the problem because the actually multisite installation is actually pretty basic, just some few steps that I believe I am doing correctly, also I have done it before. I wonder if the origin of problem is not in the WP itself.

    I will keep trying.
    Thank you again anyway.

    You’re welcome Miro. Yeah, probably.

We’re sure your determination will take you a long way in life.

    Good luck!

Sorry, I’ve been super busy :/

But I am a bit confused about the park and add on domains. I mean I know the difference, but I don’t know exactly how these kind of status relate to WordPress multisite.

They don’t except in how your host handles them. This is kind of how cPanel handles it:

parked domains – generally easiest. If I park foo.com on top of example.com then when I go to foo.com, THAT remains in the URL but it shows content from example.com (see also Mirroring)

add on domains – By DEFAULT cpanel makes this point to ~/public_html/foo.com so I have to edit that to point to public_html instead.

Add-ons are ‘better’ if you’re going to use SSL certs. Otherwise parked is super easy.
