Change existing field type from dropdown to multiselect

Hi, I have a form and would like to change one of the existing fields from Dropdown to Multi-select. Is there a way to do so or do I have to create a completely new field as I do not see any option to change?

I would prefer not to create a new field as existing user information under the previous field is already stored in the database.
