  • Generally you’ll find that option under Appearance -> Header

If you need more help, you’ll need to contact the developer of your theme for support.

Thanks, Matt. I can’t change the header through the appearance/header part of WordPress. Changing it there doesn’t appear on my blog, probably because it’s a custom theme. I can’t get in touch with my theme designer, because I purchased the theme on Etsy.

Any idea what to look for in the CSS/code of the “header” portion to replace with my new image? I don’t want to ruin anything by messing with that code, but I really need to make the change.

You need to find a theme that is supportable.

If you use a commercial theme or plugin and need support, please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations. Doing this will provide the developer with the income they need to make WordPress awesome.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

The person I bought the theme from someone on Etsy and I can’t get in touch with them. They won’t respond to my emails, so I have no one to help me. I tried doing it the right way by supporting the vendor, but now the vendor won’t respond. I’m wondering if their business is closed…. So I need help changing my header!

No, you need a supported theme and there are thousands to choose from. Find one that is close to your current theme or try something totally new.

Do you mean purchase a new theme and have someone install it? Like it may not be possible to keep my current theme and just change out the header image?

Might be possible, but no one here is likely to have any idea how your theme is set up.

You don’t have to purchase it. The free themes with WP like twentytwelve and twentyfifteen are fairly close to what you have. And you can install it.

If your site is the one in your profile, the header logo is in this location –

    https://aladygoeswest.com/wp-content/themes/YellowShines/images/logo.png

So you should be able to replace that with another one so long as it is also named “logo.png”

But using an unsupported theme long-term probably won’t be a good thing as you’re likely to eventually run into problems.

You are very right. I think I should make this quick fix, and then look into a supported theme.

Yes, my current site is the one on my profile. How do I replace the image with that file? Or, how do I locate that file?

Oh my gosh, I got it!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

EDITED – cross-posted – glad it worked! And yeah, do work on finding a new theme – you don’t want to get into a serious mess later.

You’ll have to upload the replacement image using FTP or Cpanel to access your site files on the server – it’s here:

    wp-content
        themes
            YellowShines
                images
                     logo.png

Ask your hosts if you don’t know how to use FTP or Cpanel.
